The Intermediate Level Certification builds upon foundational knowledge and delves deeper into key concepts, enabling students to analyze and interpret a variety of projects across different segments of the coffee value chain. This level integrates an understanding of intersectionality and the history of sustainable development, offering a comprehensive and contextualized approach.
Upon completing this level, students will be able to:
- Articulate and analyze different definitions of sustainability, resilience, and sustainable development.
- Critically assess the challenges currently faced by the coffee industry, developing their own sustainability goals, practices, and success metrics tailored to the present industry context.
At this level, students will enhance their understanding of:
- Sustainability perspectives within the coffee value chain, clearly identifying the industry's most pressing challenges.
- Collective action and available resources, exploring support platforms and collaborative strategies to share results and implement effective solutions.
- Real-world case studies and research resources, applying this knowledge to projects and decision-making processes within their own business contexts.
As part of the hands-on learning experience, students will design a preliminary plan to implement sustainability initiatives in their respective environments. Active participation in discussions and activities is required, allowing the Authorized SCA Trainer (AST) to evaluate their understanding of the topic and course materials. Contributions can be oral or written, depending on the program guidelines.
Final Project
The final project is an oral presentation where students critically analyze and summarize their sustainability project. This must be based on a real case that students research or is assigned by the AST. The presentation should meet the outlined components and achieve the required minimum grade for certification.
